Friday, I tripped and fell twisting my right ankle. I was in a lot of pain and I knew from a previous experience that this was not a simple hurt ankle. The pain was increasing and my wonderful friend, Stephanie Rothman (a wonderful hypnotherapist herself), reminded me that I could do emergency hypnosis on myself. So.... I started to take some deep breaths and speak to my ankle out loud. I was telling the muscles that they had done a wonderful job of protecting my ankle. They had tightening up and protecting the ankle so that it would not break but now the job was over and they could start to relax. I kept on instructing them over and over again to relax and release the tension. I was visualizing the muscles loosening and releasing. Literally, within minutes, the pain was gone and I was in the car driving the 40 minutes to pick up my daughter from school.
The ankle is definitely sprained but I know that I was free from pain within minutes and that I was able to influence the immediate swelling so that I could get in the car and drive.
